5 Reasons for In-Home Newborn Photos

Personally, I’ve done both.  We did my eldest child’s newborn photos at home and my second child’s newborn photos at a studio in a photographer’s home.  They both resulted in great photos.  But the at-home portraits will always hold a special place in my heart.

The in-home newborn photographs just felt so much more like us.

So, let's get down to it. Five reasons why I'll always champion at-home newborn portraits.

One : Your baby is the boss of photos.

We get to follow their cues.  Are they hungry?  Great, feed them.  Need a new diaper?  Awesome, change them.  Sleepy?  Perfect, let’s rock them to sleep.  Everything you need is right there because we are in the comfort of your home.

Two: Seamlessly blend lifestyle with documentary photography.

We’ll get traditional, sweet, posed, everyone-smile-at-the-camera photos, and we’ll also capture all the real, quiet (sometimes loud), in-between moments.

Three: Your home is so special.

You worked hard on your nursery.  Taking in home photos provides a bit of a time capsule for the first place your baby called home.

Four: Comfort and convenience.

You don’t need to travel!! I’ll come to you!  We aren’t at the whim of unpredictable Colorado weather.  We get to shoot at a great time (usually around 10 AM).  Baby spits up all over their outfit (or yours)?  No biggie, all their stuff is there!

Five: Does your newborn have siblings

At home is perfect.  Siblings are comfortable in their own home, they enjoy getting to play with their own toys, and they can hop in and out of photos as we go!

Ok, I couldn't stop at five, here's a bonus reason.

Six: Pets!!

I love that at home photo sessions allow plenty of cameos by pets.  I don’t know about you, but my own pets are such important members of our family, they deserve a spot in your family photos.
