A Mountain Adventure: A Documentary Family Photography Session
Jefferson, Colorado
If you're looking for a Denver mountain family photographer who captures real, adventurous moments, this session is a perfect example of what documentary family photography can be. I had the joy of photographing a wonderful family of four — Mom, Dad, their two daughters, and their beloved dog — during a camping trip in the beautiful mountains of Jefferson, Colorado.
Their family has an immense love for camping weekends, so it only made sense to document them doing what they enjoy most. We opted for a documentary-style family session, letting their real personalities and connections shine through.

We started the session as they set up their tent at their favorite camping spot, surrounded by tall pines and crisp mountain air. I captured candid moments — the girls helping with the poles, the dog weaving excitedly underfoot, and their parents working together while sharing smiles and jokes. These unposed moments are what documentary family photography is all about: real, heartfelt memories that bring you right back to the feeling of the day.
After the tent was up, we took a little break to play. The family hopped onto their UTV and explored a nearby forested area, winding through trees and kicking up a little dust. I snapped both action shots and quieter moments.
As a Denver mountain family photographer specializing in documentary sessions, I love capturing families in their element — messy, adventurous, joy-filled, and completely themselves. This Jefferson, CO camping session was the perfect reminder that the best family photos aren't always perfectly posed — they're the ones that tell your story.
