There’s something incredibly special about documenting a family in the comfort of their own home—especially when it’s a growing family welcoming a brand new baby. As an Evergreen newborn photographer, these kinds of sessions are some of my absolute favorites. This particular in-home session in Evergreen, Colorado was filled with so much love, laughter, and the beautiful kind of chaos that comes with life with little ones. Add in the presence of both sets of grandparents, and it became a truly heartwarming three-generation session.

The Sweetest Newborn Session in Evergreen, Colorado

When I arrived at their cozy Evergreen home, I was greeted by two big sisters, a cute dog, happy parents, four grandparents and the most precious little babe.


Despite his loud and perfectly energetic big sisters, this newborn remained pretty chill.

Real Moments > Posed

What I love most about documentary-style family photography is that it allows families to just be. There’s no pressure to perform or pose perfectly. It’s about documenting the quiet quiet and the loud.  Soft snuggles and playful siblings.  All the best things.

A Session That Included Everyone—Even the Family Pup!

One of the most joyful parts of this session was how it celebrated everyone in the family, including grandparents on both sides! The black lab nestled into the action, clearly feeling just as much a part of the family story as everyone else.


And the dog.  All sessions are made better by a dog (or two or three).

Why In-Home Newborn Sessions Matter

Choosing an in-home session means your photos will reflect your life.  As an Evergreen newborn photographer, I’ve found that babies (and parents!) are often most comfortable at home. There’s no need to rush out the door or worry about forgetting something. The session flows naturally because everything you need is right there. And for growing families, especially those with toddlers, that ease makes all the difference.

Capturing Generational Connections

Including grandparents in this session added such a meaningful layer. All four of these grandparents are clearly obsessed with all their grandbabies.  


If you’re considering your own in-home newborn session, I highly recommend inviting grandparents (or any special family members) to be a part of it. It’s an incredible opportunity to celebrate all the generations.

Let the Kids Be Kids

One of the things that stood out most during this session was how beautifully this family embraced the natural energy of their kids. Toddlers are not meant to sit still for long periods of time, and that’s more than okay—it’s wonderful. Some of my favorite images from the day were of the big sisters playing.

Final Thoughts

Being invited into your home to document your family is such a gift.  I love the opportunity to photograph families in their space.  I love all locations, but in home sessions just a little extra.
